After the housing boom of the last ten years, first-time buyers were finding the cost of housing harder to afford. However, with the publicity surrounding the housing market and prices booming, banks were willing to pay almost anything regardless income. The realities of whether or not borrowers can afford to repay the mortgage was largely irrelevant because even if the mortgage had defaulted on the bank would in fact an investment in Nice in a property that had increased in value much more than the amount of interest on the loan. Was that people thought houses would increase the value the reason they did? A self fulfilling prophecy?
Depending on what you read and see on television today, depend much if you think the market has been growing in a slight decrease, or plummeting. I still wonder if it is propaganda surrounding the issue that is contributing more to any crisis property market than any other factor. By providing, in some cases 10 and 20% reductions house prices, buyers are inevitably frightened away from the market, reducing demand and making sellers more willing to accept a lower bid. Again – a self-fulfilling prophecy?
